Summary
In the section “How to Lose a Friend” Suzy and her class are at a campout at Rock Lake. Mr. Andrews calls the students over to the place where he is standing. He asks them what they hear. Suzy hears a variety of things including birds, the thud of a base line in someone’s music and the rustling of students. Suzy says she hears an orchestra in all the combined songs of the birds and insects. Mr. Andrews tries to make it sound like he’s interested but it is clear he isn’t and the class laughs. He says he was actually talking about the base line, teaching them things with lower frequencies travel farther than those at high frequencies.
