Summary

In Chapter 13, “Fate of Princes,” Owen has an encounter with Dunsdworth, Severn's nephew. Dunsdworth is larger than Owen, but Owen is in better physical condition. Dunsdworth does not recognize Owen. He believes Owen is just another of Horwath's knights. Owen makes fun of Dunsdworth's name, which makes the man with Dunsdworth laugh. Clark says that the man with Dunsdworth is a member of the guard, and that Dunsdworth is never allowed to be alone, even for a moment. Clark says Dunsdworth is miserable, as is his guard. Officially, Dunsdworth should be next in line for the throne, but he is not being groomed for that position. Everyone believes Severn plans to name Elyse as his heir. With this information, Owen realizes he feels sorry for Dunsdworth in a way he had never expected.
