Summary
In this section of the novel, Mary describes the differences she senses in the typical atmosphere in Cana and the atmosphere of the town when she arrived for the wedding. The marketplace was full of shouting and laughing, instead of the usual businesslike crowds. While at the house of her cousin, Mary heard stories about the death of Lazarus and his resurrection. However, Mary noticed that neither of the women who told stories of Lazarus' resurrection had actually been there to witness the events. Mary questioned Miriam about her story. While Miriam admitted she was not there when he was resurrected, she knew that he was dead and that he had come back to life.
