Greed
Greed is a powerful motivator. In some cases, greed seems to be a natural part of a person's nature, but greed can also alter a person so that he acts out of character. In this novel, greed drives a plot so far that dozens are murdered.
James Reece is serving a deployment in Afghanistan when his men are ambushed leaving only two survivors, Reece and his friend Boozer. Days later, Boozer apparently commits suicide and Reece's wife and daughter are murdered. Reece soon discovers that a group of people have conducted an illegal and immoral study of a PTSD drug that initially caused brain tumors. While it could be argued that PTSD is a serious issue and cutting some corners to come up with a solution is admirable, the majority of those involved are driven strictly by greed.
