Summary

Chapter 5 is titled “Junior.” Just before Moehringer turned eight, Johnny arrived at the house. He told Dorothy he was taking Moehringer to visit family. During the drive, Johnny asked questions. Moehringer said he was going to become a lawyer. He did not say the plan was to sue Johnny for child support for fear of ending this budding relationship. Johnny played strip poker with Moehringer in the room. When he was down to his boxers, he bet his son and lost. Moehringer felt terrible that he was treated as a bet in a poker game. A few days later, Johnny was no longer on the radio. Dorothy said he had fled rather than pay child support. Johnny had threatened to have Dorothy killed and Moehringer kidnapped unless Dorothy stopped trying to collect child support. Dorothy told Moehringer she fell for Johnny's charismatic ways...
