Summary

Chapter 3 is titled “Me and Lloyd and Charlie Parker.” Tansy holds out her hand for the scouring pads the moment Russell, Lloyd, and O.C. arrive home. They have no need of them and readily hand them over. Russell and Lloyd always go camping the night after the equipment train. Russell says this is “how we kissed the summer good-bye” (23). Russell reminds the reader that he and Lloyd know nothing about Miss Myrt's death at this moment. Russell does not understand why O.C. is exhausted after the trip to town. Tansy apparently has no faith that Russell and Lloyd will catch fish for their supper, and she has packed food. As always, there are jars of pickled peaches.
