Summary

Chapter 49. Chung-Cha goes to the camp where she grew up, Yodok. She has been given permission to find one child and remove her from the camp. Chung-Cha inspects several children.

Chapter 50. Chung-Cha witnesses a child beaten by the guards and her fellow children. She requests to speak to her. Chung-Cha sees herself in this child. She asks the child if she has a family and if she wants to leave the camp. The child, Min, asks to leave immediately.

Chapter 51. Chung-Cha fills out the paperwork to take Min away from the camp and drives her to her apartment. Chung-Cha feeds the child and gives her a bath to begin the process of removing the filth from her body. Chung-Cha lies in bed that night and thinks about the day General Pak came to the camp and asked her if she wanted to leave...
