Summary

Chapter 1. Earl Fontaine is dying of cancer at a prison hospital in Alabama. Earl was arrested, tried, and sentenced to death for the murder of his wife. However, he is too ill to be put to death. Earl implies to a nurse that he killed many more people than that. In his thoughts he reveals he has one more person to kill.

Chapter 2. The president of the United States meets in the Situation Room with the head of the CIA, Evan Tucker, and his national security adviser, Josh Potter. They speak with a man named General Pak. Together they discuss a clandestine mission that will take place soon, a mission that could see the president impeached and General Pak killed if it were to become public.
