Part 1, The Tale of the Body Thief: Chapters 14-19 Summary
Chapter 14. Lestat is taken to Gretchen's home, a quiet cottage far from the hospital. Gretchen bathes him and puts him to bed. As Lestat continues to recuperate, he thinks frequently of Claudia, believing that he is really seeing and speaking to her. Lestat is reminded of Claudia's attempts to end his life and his guilt over her death. As Lestat gets better, his conversations with Claudia begin to end. Lestat talks with Gretchen and learns that she worked in a clinic in French Guiana, but came back to America because her vow of chastity had begun to consume her and she hoped to meet a man with whom she could give up her virginity.
