Summary
Emily notices another file with her mother’s name on it and below that yet another with Jake Windsnap’s name on it. Jake is her father. Emily has to know the truth. She begins with her file. Inside is a handwritten note with her initials and the comment ‘All clear’. It continues ‘no mer-gene identified’ and a few other comments that neither Shona nor Emily has any idea what to make of. Continuing, she finds information that confirms Mr. Beeston has been watching her for her entire life.
Emily opens her mother’s file next. Inside, there is a notation that claims she is the ‘greatest risk to mer-world detection’. It also gives Emily proof that her mother’s mind had been wiped. Shona figures that Mr. Beeston must be employed by Neptune and adds that in science they’d learned about...
