Summary
In Chapter 7, Prentiss and Landry begin working for George. Prentiss and Landry help to clear the land that George intends to use for planting and farming peanuts. George does his best to help, but he is older and weaker than the two brothers, so Prentiss and Landry take on most of the work of chopping down trees and removing other matter. The brothers form an increasingly intimate rapport with George, as they talk about their lives, losses, and hardships. George and Isabelle are still in mourning ever since the reported death of their son in the war. However, only a few days after Prentiss and Landry begin working for George, Caleb appears. His death had apparently been misreported.
