Summary

As Chapter1 begins, Flavia's sisters have tied her up and locked her in a closet. She manages to escape and arrives to eat dinner with her father before her sisters. When her father asks where her sisters are, she says she has not seen them and proceeds to eat. The next morning, she is working in her lab when her sister, Ophelia, comes in looking for her pearls. Flavia says that she has not seen them, but then Ophelia sees that they are in the portion Flavia is working on. The pearls belonged to their deceased mother, Harriet. Later, after dinner, Ophelia and Daphne, Flavia's other sister, tell Flavia that she was adopted. The next morning, Flavia plans her revenge which is to create a formula that includes poison ivy to put on the tip of Ophelia’s lipstick. She does so. When...
