Summary
The third section of the novel starts off at 21st January, 2021; at -38 degrees. In Chapter 30, Dylan has set up his gin still and has begun experimenting with his first batch. He has been avoiding Vivienne’s sketchbook and recounts the images he saw when he drunkenly paged through it. Their history in sketches takes him back, giving him unseen insights into her life. In the family tree, Dylan notices that Gunn took a different last name as the rest of their family, taken from her mother’s maiden name. Gunn also had a brother named Olaf, with whom she had a son named Alistair. Vivienne was borne from an incestuous relationship between Gunn and Olaf, explaining their troubled relationship. This would make Stella and Dylan cousins and Gunn, Stella great-aunt. Vivienne has crossed out Cael’s name and replaced it with Estelle...
