Summary
Dylan goes over to Constance and Stella’s caravan before the bonfire party in Chapter 13. He marvels at her beauty as they make him supper in a caravan much warmer than his. In the background, the television broadcasts the chaos that the world is descending into. Seeing the size of the giant approaching iceberg, Stella drops to her knees in shock. When asked about his mother, Dylan finally manages to share news of her death. He feels guilty for not scattering their ashes but sea-ice has stopped all ferries to the islands. Mostly, he is preoccupied by how much he wants Constance in all her ruggedness. Ida, the local porn star, comes to ask Constance to chip into their drinks fund and seems to like Dylan.
