Summary
In Chapter 7, Stella and Constance visit the local garbage dump to scout for furniture to restore and sell. As they scour the area, Stella thinks more about the night she was beaten up by her old friends at Ellie’s Hole. The attack was clearly motivated by her gender identity: “one was shouting that she’d always be a boy and not to look at him like that, cos he’d never hit a girl.” (68) Lewis didn’t want to hit her though, which is why he stayed home. She realizes that he liked her even before her transition. She desperately wants him to kiss her again but knows that she’ll want more if he does.
