Point of View
This novel is told from the point of view of a third person narrator. This narrator tells the story from Ray’s perspective, detailing his thoughts, emotions, and actions. The narrator is not omniscient. He relates things from only Ray’s viewpoint. The reader is given information only as Ray receives it. Thus, the outcome of the novel is as much a shock to Ray as it is to the reader.
The focus on Ray allows the author to fully develop Ray’s attitude toward Forrest, his surprise at finding the money, and his growing desire to have it for himself.
