Ray Atlee
Ray Atlee is the main character of this novel. He is the oldest son of Judge Atlee. Although the Judge did not have a positive relationship with either of his sons, Ray could be considered the “good” son because he supported himself with a career in law. Ray resents the amount of money that his father put into rehabilitation for Forrest, his younger brother. Regardless of how many times Forrest was sent to rehabilitation, he could not stay off drugs.
The plot focuses on Ray’s obsession with the $3.1 million that he finds in his father’s house after his father's death. Ray wants the money for himself and believes it is his right to keep it even though he has no idea from where the money came. Although Ray already has a comfortable life that affords him luxuries like flying lessons, Ray’s greed takes over...
