Summary

In Chapter 34, the attack on Ray began at 2 a.m. First, a brick was thrown through the window with a note attached stating: “Put the money back where you found it, then leave the house immediately” (337). A few minutes later, the phone rang. The voice told him to put the money back and leave the house before he got hurt. He considered his options. He was not willing to die for the money because his life was going too well.

Just as Ray had started to calm, another brick was thrown through the kitchen window. Ray made his decision. He put the bags of money back in the Judge’s study, ran for his car, and left ruts in the front yard driving away.
