Point of View

The point of view changes often throughout the novel. The first part of each book is told from Bianca’s perspective through third-person limited narration. In these cases, there is a narrator who accesses only Bianca’s thoughts and perceptions in the present tense. This shifts in Parts 2 and 3 in each of the books, which is told from Miranda’s perspective in first-person narration. In these cases, the narrative is told in retrospect in the past tense. At times, Miranda’s narration includes the present tense, highlighting her new thoughts while sharing the events of the past. When Bianca’s perspective is engaged, she is around 17 years old, and the narrator is necessary because Bianca never told her story.
