Summary

Book 2 begins with Bianca’s perspective in Part 1, “1930 (Bianca Medeiro).” Fisher’s father dies, and she sneaks to Greyfriars to console him in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, she finds him in the swimming pool. He insists she have a drink with him, and she sees his hostility toward his father. She had lost her parents before she could remember them. She coaxes him to share about their relationship, which he recounts as abusive and oppressive. He sobs drunkenly into her, and Bianca revels in emotionally supporting him. He kisses her for the first time.

In Chapter 3, Bianca recounts her trysts with Fisher. At their first meeting, he explains that he is engaged and wants them to be “lifelong friends…made from the same soul” (140). Their meetings go on weekly for the month of June. Bianca believes that if...
