Sofia
Sophia is a six-year-old girl who lives with her father and grandmother on a tiny island in the Gulf of Finland for the summer. Her story is told in 22 chapter-length vignettes that combine to show her growing and aging with her Grandmother and discovering a deeper connection to the nature around her. Sophia is fearless and regularly climbs higher and swims out deeper than her father would like her to. Grandmother, however, encourages her curiosity and gumption, offering to conceal her actions from her father so he will not reprimand her.
Gradually, Sophia learns to adjust to her grandmother’s brand of wisdom and creativity and loves her fiercely throughout the summertime through all of their adventures together.
