Back in Cittàgazze, Lyra continues to do the best she can to take care of Will. Lyra tells Will about being threatened by Angelica and describes how Tullio behaved before being eaten by the Specters. Will thinks that Specters maybe came from his world originally. Will wonders what Sir Charles and Mrs. Coulter are up to, and Will and Lyra discuss the bodyguards who have had their daemons cut away and how they might be immune to Specters. Lyra finds out from the alethiometer that Will's mother is safe. Before she can ask about his father, the children of Cittàgazze approach the tower. The have guns and are wild and screaming.
