Summary
In Chapter 11, Paul arranges a meeting between himself, Claire, Mo, and some employees from the governor’s office. Paul has a photographer present to take pictures. Paul hopes that the pictures of Claire and Mo together may help to increase public support for Mo’s design. However, public outrage continues to become steadily more pronounced. Some members of the press and the public accuse Mo of wanting to build an Islamic “victory garden” (116) on the 9/11 site as an insult to America and the victims of the attacks. Lou Sarge, a conservative and xenophobic radio pundit, supports these accusations.
In Chapter 12, Mo begins to receive death threats after the committee announces that he was the winner of the design competition. Mo begins dating Laila Fathi, his lawyer from the Muslim American Coordinating Council. For his safety, he temporarily lives with her at her apartment. Mo...
