Abraham Setrakian tries to get comfortable in the jail at the 17th Precinct on East Fifty-First in Manhattan. He is desperate to get out and do something to help. He reflects on Gus being brought in the night before, talking about a dead man bleeding white. He knows that Strigoi –the plague –has begun. Jim Kent is put in isolation at Jamaica Hospital Medical Center. He says he feels fine. Eph and Nora tell Jim it is for his own safety. Eph and Nora cut open Redfern and see his insides are covered with black masses, spindly feeders and veins, and shriveled organs. They are horrified. They then meet with Barnes and chief medical examiner for New York, Dr. Julius Mirnstein. Mirnstein reveals the overnight staff has vanished. The forty-some corpses are also gone. Eph shows them images...
