Lena immigrated to London from India when she was married and gave birth to Jaya in London. Modern day England is heavily contrasted with the oppressive setting of rural India during Amisha’s lifetime. Even compared to modern India, England is portrayed as a haven for Amit and Misha, who can have access to better education and medical care than in their hometown. Although Amisha wanted her daughter to go to America to have as many opportunities as possible, England is positioned as a similar land of freedom.
Deepak’s Home
Deepak’s Home is where Amisha moves after marrying Deepak and leaving her family behind. It becomes a home for Ravi as well, who tends to her family’s every need despite not being allowed to eat inside the premises.
