Summary
In class, Amisha asked her students, “Once we are born, are we still controlled by the person or event that made us? Are we puppets? […] even with our brains, heart, and soul guiding us, can we do anything we want? Do we have the freedom to make our own choices?” (144). Neema believed they led their lives according to rules. Amisha then assigned her students to write about what they wanted most and what they would sacrifice in return. Later that day, Stephen told Amisha about his brother dying in the war. Stephen’s brother was a major influence on him and taught him that all people were equal.
