Sage Singer
Sage Singer is a twenty-five year-old woman living in a small town in New Hampshire. Although she has no formal training, she is a naturally gifted baker and works overnight making bread for a bakery called Our Daily Bread. The hours suit her because she tries to avoid being in public in an effort to hide a scar on her face that is the result of a car accident three years earlier which also caused injuries that indirectly led to her mother’s death. Although Sage is Jewish, she long ago abandoned any religious beliefs and does not consider herself a Jew. She is also having an affair with a married man, another way she punishes herself and hides out because she does not believe anyone could really love her completely. Over the course of the narrative, encounters with several other characters and situations challenge her ways...
