School

Owen and Bethany go to the same school, and this is the setting for several scenes in the novel, including the opening and closing scenes. The school is not described in great detail, other than those that promote the action of the book. They spend time in the math classroom and in the cafeteria. There is also a scene involving the hallway, which is lined with lockers. The school seems to be typical with no outstanding details.

Owen's Bedroom

Owen's bedroom is filled with books, and most are castoffs from the library where his mother works. An important scene happens there, because Owen and Bethany arrive in the bedroom with plans to jump into the Kiel Gnomenfoot book. Like most of the “real” settings, the bedroom seems typical and there are few details.
