Summary

In Chapter 24, Charm and Owen arrive at an old part of the computer system. Owen realizes that it smells old, and Charm calls it “prehistoric” (198) compared to the systems to which she is accustomed. Charm begins to hack into the system and discovers that Magisteria and Quanterium were once a combined planet. She believes it is a glitch in the information. Charm says magic and science cannot function together. Owen does not argue, but knows that the two disciplines “working together was sort of the entire point of the Kiel Gnomenfoot books” (201). Charm finds more information about the Seventh Key, which leads to details about a Vault of Containment. Viruses locate Charm and Owen, and Charm says whatever they do to them in the Nalwork will translate into damage to their actual brains.
