The third part of the book begins with an undated entry because Jared is in the hospital for three days due to an explosion at the theater. The reason is unknown, and the police claim no one was inside. Jared cannot recall the explosion due to a concussion. His long-term memory is lost, but it is probably just a temporary condition. On May 31, Jared sleeps a lot and reaches for his notebook when he wakes because he remembers it contains the answers, though he does not remember what is in it.
