Summary

Arthur realizes that he is feeling less alone with Maddy in the house and taking care of him. When Arthur reveals that Lucille will be moving in, Maddy is at first quiet but then is determined to leave. Arthur speaks to her, convincing her that, despite her overbearing fussiness, Lucille is as lonely as they are and needs the company. Maddy agrees to stay. Arthur tells her that, though he and Nola could not have children, they loved their friends' children as if they were their own. Maddy confesses that she took the Mr. and Mrs. Hamburger figurine. When Maddy shows a picture of her mother, Arthur in turn confesses that he previously met her father.
