Summary
In Chapter 21, the old man and the old woman begin their journey to the daughter’s house with their remaining goats: Poonachi, Kalli, and Kalli’s two kids. They milk Poonachi along the way. At the house, Poonachi is reunited with Poovan, and they happily graze together. One night, they happen to be tethered next to each other in the part, and they passionately have romantic sex together. Hours later, there is a sudden commotion, and Poovan is taken away. The next day, Poonachi sees that he has been slaughtered as a sacrifice, and feels a deep and newfound sorrow. Poonachi tries to take in the last remnants of Poovan’s smell as he is roasted. As the couple departs, the daughter says she wants a doe from Poonachi’s next litter.
