Summary
In Chapter 24, “August 30, 1945, Two weeks before the Japanese surrender in Malaya,” Abel began reminiscing about his home and family. Even when he was drinking, he still wanted to survive.
In “Jujube,” Jujube despaired because Jasmin still had not returned, Gordon was dying, and Cecily was silent and distant. One day, when Jujube went home for lunch, Cecily started muttering about a man who could help them find Jasmin and moved to leave. When Jujube tried to stop her, Cecily shoved her to the ground.
