Summary
In Chapter 30, Wallace and Rose spend time during spring break wandering around the city. They search for buildings in Wallace's architecture book. On this day, they find “a crystal house on top of this ordinary building” (224). A woman named Diane, who lives in the crystal house, encounters Wallace and Rose on the street. She uses Rose's camera to take pictures of Wallace and Rose, then invites them to visit “the High Line” (225). This is a park on an abandoned set of rail tracks high in the air. Wallace does not know the park exists and is surprised it is not included in his architecture book. While he is thinking this, Rose says, “We need more books” (226), indicating she is thinking the same thing. They are amazed at the plants and arts along the walkway.
