Summary

In Chapter 26, Vega and Wallace talk about art and the fact that people who live in the housing projects are not expected to be artistic. They walk to a bodega to get some plantains his mother wants. They see a girl named April leading a white chicken on a leash. They have no idea what it means. Harp and Gully attack Wallace while he is waiting outside the bodega. Vega jumps into the fight. Gully and Harp beat Wallace and Vega and take their phones. The bodega owner calls the police who ask Wallace and Vega questions about the attack. The boys insist they do not know who beat them and cannot describe their attackers. The police drive the boys back to their neighborhood. Neither wants to be seen getting out of a police car. Wallace can see an immediate change in Vega...
