Summary

When the narrator gets back to the motel room, she discovers that the Englishman is there, and that he has no idea what is happening – specifically, he did not check out of the Inter-Continental Hotel, and that he has no idea that people from the Defense Department are after him. She tries to talk him into going back to the Hotel and trying to sort things out, but he refuses, convinced that if he does so, he will be detained, and will never be allowed to return to London. He convinces her to try and help him, and she eventually agrees. The heat gets to her, and she falls asleep. When she wakes up, she finds the Englishman reading a Bible, and they talk about how and why she reads it, and the two books of poetry she has – they are...
