Summary
In Chapter 12, Gordievsky returned to his home in Moscow to find one of the locks turned for which he did not have the key. It was official - the KGB was watching him. After calling the locksmith, Gordievsky had a sleepless night wondering what the following day had in store.
At the office in Moscow, he was casually interrogated by Viktor Grushko. He asked about Bettany, and why Guk was expelled, but Gordievsky's answers were fluffy at best. After days past with nothing happening, Oleg spoke with a colleague from the illegals department, and he was informed that all illegals in Britain had been removed. The KGB knew it had been compromised. That night, he called Leila and used the code that M16 instructed him to use if he was in danger.
