Summary

In Chapter 4, Gordievsky gets acquainted with Philip Hawkins. In espionage, there is an important bond between the spy and the spymaster - one of love and care. Oleg did not feel that with Hawkins. In their first meeting, Hawkins started grilling Gordievsky on the KGB without any preamble. Before Gordievsky would go into detail, he outlined his three rules for spying for the British: no damage to his colleagues at the station, no secret recording or photographing, and no payments. Then began monthly meetings between Gordievsky and Hawkins in a safe house in Denmark. The relationship between the two men improved thanks to professional approval, and Gordievsky found pleasure in slowly eroding the Soviet Union from the inside.
