Summary
Chapter 96: Hitler ordered another serious air attack on London. Clementine tries to persuade Mary to postpone her engagement and Pamela cautions her to think it over carefully. Mary's confidence in her engagement began to falter.
Chapter 97: On May 10, Hess was finally able to take off on his secret flight to Scotland where he hoped to meet with the Duke of Hamilton. German leaders were upset by this act of insubordination but thought Hess unlikely to reach his destination. Hess, however, did make it to Scottish airspace where British observers refused to believe in the improbability of a lone German plane flying solo.
Chapter 98: A major assault on London took place that night as Hess struggled to land his plane. He decided to bail out and landed in the Scottish countryside where he was promptly arrested. He insisted on...
