Summary
Chapter 70: Beaverbrook tried to resign again when Churchill attempted to make him head of a new "Import Executive" (340). Churchill was also annoyed by security lapses perpetrated by the press. Furthermore, his investigation into the missing airplanes yielded no results. After much back-and-forth, Beaverbrook stayed on as minister of aircraft production but did not become chairman of the Import Executive.
Chapter 71: On January 10, Harry Hopkins arrived at 10 Downing Street as a representative of and advisor to Roosevelt. Colville continued to be thwarted in his love for Gay Margesson and tried to put this in perspective in light of the war. Mary Churchill visited London where she saw the damage of the bombs and partied with friends. Over the weekend, Churchill did everything he could to win Hopkins over to his cause and was ultimately successful.
