Summary
Dinaz helps Sera prepare Viraf’s breakfast because Bhima is late again. Sera worries that Bhima’s lateness is becoming habitual. She remembers Feroz saying, “Servants have to be kept in their place” (71). Dinaz sees Sera looking at the clock and tells her to stop. It does not matter if Bhima is late. Sera thinks that Dinaz now acts like she did with Feroz when it comes to Bhima and that Sera acts like Feroz.
Viraf enters the kitchen and complains that they are talking about Bhima again. He says that they need to stop talking about Bhima’s problems and help Maya to have an abortion. Sera is irritated by his casual attitude toward abortion.
Viraf says that Bhima had better arrive soon or she will not get a ride to the market. He does not want to be late for...
