Summary
In Chapter 6, “Up, Up, Up,” throughout Antonio’s “second afternoon at Las Acacias,” formerly Villa Elena, he began to realize that he had no control over his life (244). He and Maya continued reviewing and discussing Ricardo’s documents and Elaine’s story. Then Maya revealed that everything she knew about Ricardo was a fiction Elaine had invented. When she was five and Ricardo was imprisoned, Elaine told her Ricardo died when his plane disappeared into the ocean. She then abandoned Villa Elena and moved them to Bogotá. Maya admitted she did not know what it was like to have children and did not understand the things parents did to protect them. She asked if Antonio had children and he lied, saying he did not.
