Summary
Chapter 7: Years later, Elisabeth would read about terrestrial snails in-depth. They are gastropods with thousands of teeth; some species are predatory and a few are even cannibalistic.
Chapter 8: Elisabeth's snail has two sets of tentacles that she watches quiver and twitch as it looks for food. Snails rely only on the senses of smell, taste, and touch. Snails are very sensitive to environmental changes, as Elisabeth is also due to her illness.
Chapter 9: Elisabeth loves to gaze at her snail's spiral shell. As a snail grows, it secretes material to widen the shell's opening to match its body size. A snail can also repair a broken shell by secreting new shell material. Unlike her snail's study external shell, Elisabeth's internal structure was failing as her illness caused her bone density to decrease rapidly.
