Summary
“Lights up on a kitchen table, two chairs, Chinese food. Bella is seated. Christopher enters, wearing his gas-station-attendant jacket and a backpack on his shoulder” (65). They greet each other, and Bella describes his appearance to the audience. “He looks wide awake, freshly showered. His hair is still damp” (86). In dialogue, Bella invites Christopher to eat. Instead, he offers her his manuscript, which they agree is too short to be a novel. He tells her the title, ‘To Lie Facedown in a Field Full of Snow” (66), and Bella tells him it is a good title. When Christopher asks whether she will read it she does not respond, instead saying that she wants him to help her die.
Bella then narrates, in present tense, her explanation to Christopher – her diagnosis, her experience with her mother, the process, and how she wants to avoid going through chemotherapy...
