Uncle John and his family live in Paris, Illinois, and Jacob moves to Paris to live with them. The town is small without much for the younger people to do. The town seems to be typical of a smaller town in the Midwest. Jacob attends Paris High School. There are stores and businesses, including a hardware store, flower shop, grocery store, and restaurants. Jacob's family lives outside town, in a rural area.
