Summary

In Chapter 41, “The Other Side,” Dr. Silva, Gideon, and Malini arrive in Nod. Dr. Silva gives Malini a drink that renews her strength instantly. Gideon and Dr. Silva can see in the dark, and Gideon leads Malini. Dr. Silva transforms Malini's form so that she looks like an angel, which is quite painful for Malini. Dr. Silva transforms herself to blend in as well. Gideon hides. Malini is overcome by the horrible odor and Dr. Silva eliminates her ability to smell. Dr. Silva explains that the angels do not really look like this, and are emulating “the image of God” (259) based on the fact that “man was made in the image of God” (259).
