Summary
Chapter 12 is titled “A Girl Worth Fighting For.” Jacob cannot imagine why he told Dr. Silva so much about himself. One day, John asks Jacob to go to town with him. John reveals that the police have called off the active search for Lily. The case remains open, but they have no leads. John gives Jacob some money and sends him to buy some things for Carolyn. Jacob is confused but Malini steps in and helps him do the shopping. As they talk, Jacob suddenly sees Malini as an attractive girl where he had previously seen her only as a friend. He worries that taking their relationship farther might eliminate the only friend he has in Paris.
They walk toward McNaulty's, a local restaurant, to wait for John to finish his business in town. Jacob notices a low hum and sees water flow...
