Patroclus

In "The Song of Achilles", Patroclus describes the journey of his life from 5 years old until his death. Patroclus is kind, soft. He is perceived as simple and not quite right when he is a child. His father is disappointed in him. Even though he is a prince, other boys push him around. Through his time in Phthia and then on Mount Pelion, Patroclus builds his confidence and self-esteem. Ity is during this time that he bonds and falls in love with Prince Achilles.

Patroclus is gentle and kind. Though he accidentally kills someone, he would never intentionally hurt another being. There is only one point in the book where Patroclus willingly enters battle, and he gets caught up in the thrill of it.
