Summary
Chapter 4 begins on Excel’s first day back from Hello City, with Excel revealing to Maxima that he plans to try to get his old job back. When Maxima tells Excel that she will be working today too, she accuses him of judging her and feeling ashamed. She presents him with a Christmas card from their landlord, notifying them that their rent will be increased. The narrative reveals that their landlord is Uncle Bingo, Grandmaster Joker’s younger brother and a Bay Area real estate mogul. Bingo begrudgingly allowed the two of them to live at La Villa Aurelia out of respect for his brother, but since Joker’s death, has steadily raised their rent.
