Chapter 7 Summary
It's the first day of school. While Eddie usually gets picked on by various groups of kids, the fact that his father and best friend died has earned him some leeway. Eddie is enrolled in an elective first period, Really Modern Literature, which he planned to take with Billy. The class is taught by the librarian, and the students are allowed to read any books they want. Billy comments on how fast he can read now that he's dead. Billy knows why Ms. Lloyd wants them to read it, why Moeltke, a senior who is a Christian, doesn't want to read it and why Eddie will love it. Billy also mentioned seeing a train coming at the end of the tunnel.
